Meet the Artist: Julie Couch
Hi sweet friends!
It’s the week before we launch our first exclusive collection with our very own Julie Couch, and we are over the moon with excitement! When talking with Julie about her collection, I had the opportunity to sit down and ask her a few fun questions about who she is as an artist and how that impacts the art that she makes. In case you haven’t had the chance to interact with Julie in person, here are her answers to my six questions so that you can get to know her a little better.
1. Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I'm from small town west Tennessee. I grew up in Henderson and Jackson TN. I had every single Crayola art kit ever made...and then some!
2. Tell me about your favorite medium.
I love ALL the layers! Most often my pieces are a mix of watercolor, oil pastels, charcoal and acrylic paint.
3. Where do you find inspiration?
Strong women, motherhood, nature, and friendship.
4. What motivates you to create?
The freedom of making art always inspires me. I've taught Gus and Marlowe that there is never a wrong answer when creating art!
5. What's one piece of advice you would give your younger self, artist to artist?
Though I try not to have regrets, the ones that creep in occasionally stem from times in my life when I made decisions based on insecurities. I didn't believe in myself enough to move forward with things that I truly wanted. I let self-doubt hold me back. At 45, I know better. I will inevitably fail and succeed at times, but I will strive to be the best version of myself.
6. Dream vacation?
Santorini, Greece!
She’s the best and we all just love her so much over here at G. Grace Gallery. Julie’s exclusive collection will feature nine beautiful pieces that she has created specifically for the gallery. Each piece is unique and inspired by of all the strong women that have had an influence in her life. The art will be available Monday, October 30th at 10:00 A.M. CST in our online shop. Can’t wait to see you there!
