Meet the Artist: Delie Putnam
Hi sweet friends!
This Friday we launch our second exclusive collection with our dear friend Delie Putnam. Delie has been with us since the very beginning and has been an asset as we have grown and reimagined what an online Gallery could look like. She is kind, loving, and always willing to help anywhere needed. We are better because of her and I am so excited that you all get to see her beautiful pieces so soon! Before we show you her art, we wanted you to get to know her personally like we do. Here are six fun questions to introduce you to her:
1. Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I was born in New Orleans and currently live in south Louisiana. Growing up in the South and spending lots of time near coastlines and water has absolutely impacted my style of painting.
2. Tell me about your favorite medium.
Even though I paint in several mediums, acrylic is my "go-to." I like the quick dry time plus the ability to easily thin it out. I paint flat with lots of water and mediums, so acrylic seems to work best with my methods. (A blow dryer is always on standby. LOL)
3. Where do you find inspiration?
Inspiration comes from so many places and is often unexpected. Of course, coastlines and landscapes are so captivating and interesting. And then small things, like two fascinating colors found next to each other in nature can also inspire me.
4. What motivates you to create?
My mind is always thinking of things that I want to create. There is never a shortage of ideas. So, I am motivated to get those ideas out of my head and see what they actually look like once I create the piece. Sometimes, it’s not where I thought it would go. But it always starts as an idea that wanted its chance to be.
5. What's one piece of advice you would give your younger self, artist to artist?
Practically, I would tell myself to start an email list ASAP. LOL. Artistically, I would say to enjoy the journey because that’s the reward. Oh - and to never say “never.”
6. Dream vacation?
My dream vacation is anywhere or anytime I can go somewhere with my "grown-up" children and husband… but that being said … let’s go to Italy!
